About Gary Foster
Hello and welcome. I was born in upstate New York in farm country. As I ventured through life, I have called various places home along the east coast. In my early teens I got my first camera, a 1960's Kodak Pony, from my father. He had done some photography work and later gave me use of dark room equipment. I rolled my own film and spent hours in the dark room developing. Most was black and white film due to the expense involved with color. The old Kodak, although not a SLR, had several cool features, like a manual shutter, allowing for double exposure pictures and other interesting effects. Perhaps I'm showing my age a bit but overlaying and adding colors to photos by hand took hours, not a few clicks. The digital age sure changed things regarding photography. I often find myself forgetting that I don't have to watch how many shots I take and that I can instantly see how it turned out. I am always on the search for that unique shot or perspective. I definitely feel that I view the world around me in a different light. I've worked with several different media over the years including wood, metal, leather, lasers and more. I enjoy spending time in the woods hiking, on the water kayaking or snooping around unique abandon places. I hope you enjoy as I share some of the interesting and beautiful things I see along the way.
